Durango, Colorado
Durango is a small town in Colorado with a population of 17,000 people. Its the closest mountain town in Colorado driving from Phoenix. The city has a classic small town charm but is lively and busy with activity.
The city hosts a mountain resort for skiing & snowboarding and 
has 5 local breweries. On Main Street, you will find an stretch of storefronts (restaurants, shopping and bars/breweries) that runs about 10 blocks.
During the winter, the town can get covered with snow and turn into a winter wonderland. During my visit, I was lucky to have it snow 2 of the 3 days I stayed. I saw the town transform from a regular small town city to a snow-covered wonderland.
If you are looking for a winter getaway where you can rent a small cabin outside of town to get a serene environment yet want to travel into town for entertainment and meals, Durango is a great destination. You can search for cabins/vacation rentals at vbro.com.
